Beaverton AVID Volunteer Tutoring Opportunity

Be an AVID Volunteer Tutor and help students become college and career ready while gaining valuable experience for your future career!

You are invited to facilitate student led tutorials in a Beaverton middle school AVID class on Tuesdays or Thursdays for 60-120 minutes during the school day. School placement will vary depending on the school tutorial schedule and your availability.

AVID TUTORS:

Tutoring in AVID is different from any volunteer position you have held before. Many AVID students are first in their family to attend college and want to achieve big dreams! AVID students need role models and mentors to support their dream of college. AVID tutors assist students to achieve their full potential by facilitating collaborative tutorial groups that use Socratic questioning and collaborative learning techniques to help students come up with the answers to their questions on their own and by working with fellow students. You can be a part of changing the life of a student while learning valuable skills for your own education and for any workplace!

AVID TUTORING IN BSD:

Participants will gain valuable ex! perience with innovative teaching methodologies that they can implement in their current education and take into their professional practice. o Hours will consist of direct student contact under the supervision of an AVID Elective Teacher. o Tutorial times vary depending on the middle school schedule and there are many tutorial time slots throughout the school day from 9:00am to 2:50pm. o 6 Hours of training is provided along with ongoing support throughout the year.
