In the Summer 2013 issue of Rethinking Schools magazine, Oregon Writing Project Teacher Consultant and Willamette Primary School teacher Willow McCormick shares the results of an assignment where second graders ask their grandparents to write about their experiences during the Civil Rights Movement. The letters bring surprising wisdom— and some thought-provoking issues—to the classroom.
