Learning and Teaching Through the Arts: How Visual Arts and Movement Promote Understanding

This workshop will explore how storyboards, drawing, movement, tableaux, and skits increase student engagement, communication and enjoyment.
Examples will be shared of an effective arts-based curriculum for middle and high school ESOL classrooms, language arts classes, and adult education courses.
Participants will experience a movement and storyboard workshop and leave with curriculum development ideas.

About the Instructor
Brynna Hurwitz has taught ESOL, Language Arts, Dance, and Education in the Portland area for over twenty years. She serves as the Portland Outreach Liaison for the Refugee Concerns Interest Section of TESOL and has been appointed to the Superintendent’s Advisory Commission on Enrollment and Transfer. Brynna can be found ballroom dancing in Portland’s many venues.
