One in Ten: Discussing Career Concerns of Queer Educators
Date: June 12 2013 4:30pm - 6:30pm Location: Graduate Campus
Join us for a discussion with a panel of current K-12 educators from Portland Public Schools as they answer questions such as:
- What current protections and processes are in place to help guide new teachers through the hiring and induction phases of their career? What are some important factors to consider as one navigates this process?
- How should an LGBTQQI teacher talk and work with students and families when it comes to issues of gender and sexual diversity?
- What role might allies play in contributing to the construction of safe(r) professional and educational environments in the P-12 arena?
- What are some key resources and what are some future possibilities (policies, initiatives, curricula, activism, etc.) LGBTQQI teachers and their allies should know about?
The purpose of this event is to inform and support a community of LGBTQQI preservice interns, newly inducted teachers, and their allies so that they are able to successfully navigate issues of gender and sexual diversity in their careers as public school educators. Ample time for Q&A will be provided.
This event is sponsored by the Teacher Education Program and the Center for Community Engagement at the Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling.
Who should attend?
LGBTQQI preservice interns, newly inducted inservice teachers, veteran educators, and their allies.
This event is offered FREE of charge and coffee, tea and a light snack will be provided.
