Lewis & Clark students represent the next generation of global thinkers and leaders, unafraid to discard conventional thinking, civic complacency, and outmoded preconceptions. No one student here is typical, so we asked four future Pioneers to tell us their stories and share why they will be attending Lewis & Clark this fall.

Lewis & Clark caught my eye when I first visited campus in the summer of 2011. I was in Oregon for a family trip, and had already fallen in love with Portland. The campus itself is beautiful and the view from the Admissions office is priceless. I also learned about the College Outdoors program, which sounds like a dream come true. To be able to go out into the world with your peers and explore all the wild places that are close to campus is something that I would never get to do if I stayed in Carlisle.

I chose Lewis & Clark for many reasons, some particular to the school and some extracurricular. First, I love the city of Portland—it has this fun, quirky vibe that really pulls me in. It’s a city that is unique and really filled with character, and Lewis & Clark feels the same way. I feel like Lewis & Clark really cares about your learning and future growth as both a student and a person.

I chose Lewis & Clark for many reasons: because students are encouraged to cooperate instead of compete; because of the nature that surrounds it; because the school itself seems to function with lots of pride and little ego. I feel Lewis & Clark will give me everything I need to fulfill my own ambitions, and hopefully it will humble me.

I visited campus twice, and both times the tours were great. I got the feeling the students wanted to be there and they were excited about what they were doing, which stuck out in my college search. I’m very excited about all of Lewis & Clark’s international programs. I have always wanted to learn about and experience different cultures of the world.
