Jon Kinney BA ’85 has lived and worked in Saudi Arabia for more than 18 years. With a background in academic training and IT education, he currently serves as a training manager for an electronic health records project at Johns Hopkins Aramco Healthcare in Dhahran. He believes his last-minute decision to apply to Lewis & Clark’s Costa Rica overseas study program was life-changing. The one-trimester trip turned into two, which led to a Spanish major; a master’s degree in linguistics; and periods of teaching in Japan and Hungary. “Along the way I learned to cultivate an open mind, stay flexible, study multiple languages, and not only tolerate ambiguity, but celebrate it in all its myriad forms and manifestations.” Jon and his Hungarian wife, Judit, have five children, three of whom are now in the United States pursuing their educations. Jon and Judit have traveled extensively, not only in the Gulf region but in Europe, North America, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
