Tom Hames BS ’80 continues to work as senior trial counsel in the Southwest regional office of Travelers Insurance, starting there in 2006. After winning the Travelers Insynch (customer service) award in 2022–which included a trip to Disney World with wife Amy and daughter Lauren–Hames was nominated again for the Insynch award in 2023. He has been a member of the board of directors of the Colorado Snowsports Museum in Vail, Colorado, since 2017. The museum has been expanded and updated to include riding and backcountry sports. Hames continues to speak about the 10th Mountain Division, America’s only alpine soldiers, to honor his father, who served in the World War II 10th Mountain Division. He lists his best L&C memories as the 1980 University of Oregon speech and debate tournament with Charles Blanchard, being mentored by Professor Steve Hunt, and discovering Tasmania on the L&C overseas study program to Australia in 1978-79.

Tom Hames BS ’80 joined the board of directors of the Colorado Snowsports Museum in Vail, Colorado, in 2017. Hames is a regular presenter at the museum on the history of the World War II 10th Mountain Division, America’s only alpine soldiers. His father was a member of that division. On July 24, 2022, the Colorado chapter of the Lewis & Clark Alumni Association met at the Snowsports Museum. After hearing a presentation by Hames, the group toured Camp Hale, where the division trained.

Thomas Hames BS ’80 earned his JD from the University of Denver College of Law in 1983, with licensure in Colorado, Wyoming, and Nevada. Hames is currently senior trial counsel for the Travelers Insurance Company, where he litigates product liability, ski, and injury cases. In addition, he is chair of the board of directors of the 10th Mountain Division Foundation, a charity established to honor the American alpine soldier. He also helped establish a charity license plate in Colorado for the 10th Mountain Division. Hame is a graduate of the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) Alaska and completed training as an emergency medical technician. He is a member of the board of directors of the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum in Vail, Colorado.

Thomas Hames BS ’80 joined the board of directors of the Colorado Ski and Snowboard Museum in Vail, Colorado. He is also the chair of the board of directors of the 10th Mountain Division Foundation, which perpetuates the legacy of World War II’s 10th Mountain Division. As of 2016, Hames has spent 14 years as senior trial counsel for Travelers Insurance Company in Denver.
