What led you to enroll at Lewis & Clark’s Graduate School of Education and Counseling?

I chose Lewis & Clark’s MAT Elementary Education program because it focused on equity and inclusion.

Who or what inspired you to pursue your chosen field of study?

My grandfather inspired me to pursue a career in education. He was a teacher for many years and later moved on to become an administrator. He taught me the power that education has to change lives. In addition, I have also been inspired by all the amazing teachers throughout my life who demonstrated what it looked like to be a kind, effective, and relevant educator.

What does social justice mean to you?

To me, social justice means that everyone is treated equitably and has individual autonomy, regardless of ethnic background and/ or socio-economic status.

How do you hope to apply your social justice education in your chosen career?

I hope to apply my social justice education to my chosen career by providing students a voice in the classroom and giving them agency with regards to their education.

Where have you been working/interning as a student, and what does that work entail?

I have been student teaching in the PPS school district. As a student teacher, I have been in one classroom for the entirety of the school year. As the year has progressed, I have slowly taken on more responsibility, both in planning and teaching. This lead to my solo teaching experience at the end of the year.
