Artist Statement
This culmination of artwork is in response to my internship experience in a retirement community during this time of COVID. The work conveys the navigation that took place internally, while exploring my identity as an art therapist and acknowledging the impact of the internship experience during this unprecedented time. It was through struggling with transference/countertransference where the deconstruction process began for me. What followed was a period of reconstruction in which more balance and structure emerged. Through this exploration, my identity as an art therapist ultimately manifested as a guest house, where the lived experiences of those in my care are heard.
My artwork largely consists of painting with acrylics though I also work with graphite, inks, watercolor, plaster, mixed media, and film.
Art Therapy is located in room 326 of Rogers Hall on the Graduate Campus.
