A Leap of Faith in the Right Direction

Pastor Chappell and Dr. Andrae Brown, an associate professor of L&C in the MCFT program make a commitment to ending domestic violence in African American and Latino/a churches.

Pastor Chappell from St. Johns All Nations Church of God in Christ and Dr. Andrae Brown from Lewis & Clark College Graduate School of Education and Counseling set out to do one mission: end domestic violence in the Portland area. For over a year, Pastor Chappell and Dr. Andrae Brown have been collaborating with Gabby Santos from Oregon Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence (OCADSV) on ways to engage men, boys, faith leaders, and church members and their immediate communities on how to end domestic violence in faith communities. As Pastor Chappell advocates, “Well-meaning Men! Let’s stand together against domestic violence. Our silence gives consent but out collective voice can curb this rising tide of domestic violence in our homes, communities, neighborhoods, and churches.” If you are interested in supporting and getting involved in this social justice work, please contact Dr. Brown at albrown@lclark.edu.
