After a competitive nationwide recruitment, Mountain View High School will have a new leader this fall, Bend’s Kathryn Legace. Legace will take over for current Mountain View High School principal Bob Jones when he transitions into a new administrative position with the Bend-La Pine Schools in July.

“We were pleased with the strong group of candidates for this position and are happy that Katie Legace has chosen to accept this exceptional leadership opportunity,” said Superintendent Doug Nelson. “She has a demonstrated ability to work in partnership with staff, parents and students to provide positive, engaging learning environments and will be a great fit at Mountain View.”

Legace will become Mountain View’s fifth principal in the history of Mountain View, which opened in 1979. “We have no doubt that Katie will maintain the strong history of dynamic leaders who have served at Mountain View,” Nelson added.

“To become a Mountain View Cougar is a tremendous honor,” said Legace. “I will work diligently with students and staff to ensure that the tradition of excellence in academics, arts, athletics and student life will continue on for years to come.”

Legace said she is excited about the opportunity to lead Mountain View staff and students into the future but that leaving Pilot Butte will be bittersweet.

“I will miss the Pilot Butte students, teachers and parents,” she said, “but will look forward to the day that I see many of our students again as they walk through the doors at Mountain View as freshmen.”

Legace spent the last ten years in leadership positions at the middle and high school levels in the Bend-La Pine Schools. She is currently the principal at Pilot Butte Middle School in Bend and has served as assistant principal at both Cascade Middle and Mountain View High schools. She spent the first six years of her career teaching and coaching in Redmond, Oregon and in San Diego, California.

Legace holds a Master’s degree in Administration from Lewis & Clark College and a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education from San Diego State University.
