Nelson, Mr. Michael D.

Mr. Nelson is a Senior Portfolio and Risk Manager of Fixed Income Structured Products. He is in the process of launching Eagle Bay Partners, Ltd., a hedge fund focused on participating in the U.S. stability plan initiatives and purchasing performing asset backed and mortgage backed securities at distressed prices. Prior to launching Eagle Bay Partners, Mr. Nelson was a Director in the Capital Markets Division of the Royal Bank of Canada. In 2004, Mr. Nelson started a new proprietary trading business at RBC. He grew a fixed income portfolio, principally comprising ABS and RMBS, from US$0.0 to US$5.0 billion in 4 years. In 2008, the portfolio’s returns put Mr. Nelson in the top tier for fixed income portfolio managers. Mr. Nelson employs a fundamental, credit based investment approach. Before starting the trading business, Mr. Nelson held positions of increasing responsibility in RBC’s Risk Management Group. His team evaluated all structured finance transactions entered into by the firm.

Mr. Nelson received a BS in Finance from California State University, Long Beach (1990), a JD with emphasis in Tax and Corporate Law the Lewis & Clark Law School (1995), and holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation (2000).
