LC’s three Fulbright Language Teaching Assistants (FLTAs), attended the annual Fulbright conference in Washington DC in November. Anita (Chinese), Alex (Russian), and Flor (Spanish) attended pedagogy workshops and shared cultural traditions. There were 375 grantees speaking 37 languages from 56 countries at the conference.
The conference program included “Psycholinguistics and Translanguaging,” among other topics. FLTAs also had the opportunity to share their experiences working in American universities and colleges. According to Alex, the highlight was the Culture Fair, where 16 countries were showcased: “Such a beautiful kaleidoscope of cultures and traditions!” Flor also had the chance to take part: “I got the chance to represent my country Argentina alongside the other Argentinian Fulbrighters (16 in total).”
Alex, Anita and Flor also had the chance to explore Washington DC, and took time off to visit important sites, museums and restaurants.
To Alex, this event was a great reminder of the reason why he is here, sharing his culture with Americans. “It is a great honor to be a cultural ambassador, and to be a part of the Fulbright mission, which is promoting mutual understanding among out nations, especially in these unstable times.”
