Dan Balmer, Lewis & Clark’s Instructor of Jazz Guitar and Director of Jazz Combos was recently interviewed by Grammy Award winning jazz bassist Christian McBride for an exciting spotlight on legendary jazz drummer Mel Brown as part of NPR’s Jazz Night in America series. NPR dubs Brown “Local Legend” and the “Godfather of Portland Jazz”.
An active musician in the Portland area, Dan regularly performs at venues across town and has been the guitarist in Mel Brown’s B-3 Organ Group for almost 30 years. In NPR’s interview, Dan says that “Mel blends the sophistication of a musician who is an expert at their craft, with the entertainment that reaches people.”
