Open gallery
Under the direction of Associate Professor of Music Lance Inouye, the Lewis & Clark Orchestra recently collaborated with Whitman College, the University of Puget Sound, and Seattle Pacific University to record “Serenade” by William Grant Still Jr. Notably, this is the first known recording of this particular orchestration of the work.
“It was nice to connect with the orchestra directors at these schools,” Inouye said. “Hopefully someday we can work together in-person!”
American composer William Grant Still Jr. (1895–1978) composed nearly 200 works, including five symphonies, four ballets, eight operas, more than thirty choral works, art songs, chamber music, and works for solo instruments. He was sometimes referred to as the “Dean of Afro-American Composers.”
