As Dean of the Graduate School, I want to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of the entire community in response to this crisis. Our faculty have moved classes online, staff are telecommuting most of the time while sustaining our extraordinary standard of service, and students are adapting rapidly to all of these changes, responding with generosity and enthusiasm to building this new ship as it sails. I am deeply grateful for our community’s response to the challenges we face, and humbled by the sense of collective responsibility that motivates these efforts.

I also know that the roots of these responses are deeply embedded in the reasons and life experiences that brought all of you to the Graduate School in the first place. You came here to serve others, to expand the opportunities for individuals, families, and communities to thrive. You came here to promote a more just, inclusive, and democratic society. You came here out of love and hope for a better world.

Nothing is more powerful than that. We stand together.
