Ms. Packer is the Founding Artistic Director of the preeminent American Shakespeare theatre, the Massachusetts based “Shakespeare and Company,” as well as a nationally known actor, director, playwright, and Shakespeare scholar. She has directed most of Shakespeare’s plays, acted in seven of them, and taught the entire cannon at colleges and Universities including Harvard, M.I.T., NYU, and others.

The Department is fortunate to host her while she is performing her two-person play Women of Will at the Portland Playhouse.

The play, an exploration of female characters in Shakespeare’s plays, has been widely produced internationally and very favorably reviewed by publications such as the New York Times. Her companion scholarly study of the same name examines the female characters in the plays and argues that the overall development of Shakespeare’s work can be traced and analyzed from the point of view of his portrayal of women. In addition, Ms. Packer published two other books on Shakespeare – children’s guide to Shakespeare, “Tales from Shakespeare,” and a “Power Plays: Shakespeare’s Lessons in Leadership and Management.”

At the Theatre Department, she will conduct two workshops on acting in Shakespeare and deliver a lecture about exploring Shakespeare’s female characters as an actor, director, dramaturg and a scholar.

The performance workshops will take place on Tuesday and Thursday, November 5th and 7th from 1:30 – 4:00PM in the Black Box Theatre.

Her lecture will take place on Tuesday, November 5th from 7:00 – 8:30 at the Fir Acres Main Stage Theatre.

Limited number of heavily discounted tickets for Ms. Packers performance at the Portland Playhouse is available to our students. Please contact the Theatre Department for more detail.
