Minh Taylor, MAT ’18, selected by Microsoft’s #EmpowerPossibility campaign for new classroom tech

“I love integrating technology and art, and because funding is being cut everywhere I thought I would try the #EmpowerPossibility program, without ever thinking I would be selected.”

With a video and story posted on their webpage, Microsoft Store announced alumna Minh Taylor, MAT ’18, as the most recent winner of their #EmpowerPossibility campaign and the recipient of two Surface Studios for Sabin Elementary’s 4th grade classrooms.

“I love integrating technology and art, and because funding is being cut everywhere I thought I would try the #EmpowerPossibility program, without ever thinking I would be selected,” she says in the video as Microsoft Store employees surprise her with the computers.

Taylor was inspired to pursue a career in education by her grandfather, who also served as a teacher for many years.

“He taught me the power that education has to change lives,” Taylor explains. “I’m also inspired by all the amazing teachers throughout my life who demonstrated what it looked like to be a kind, effective, and relevant educator.”

Still in her first year of teaching, Taylor is following in the footsteps of her mentors by changing the way in which her students experience the intersection of technology and art.

Taylor completed her practicum as a student teacher at Sabin Elementary throughout the 2017/18 academic year while earning her MAT at Lewis & Clark.
