An Overview of Campus Repairs and Upgrades

Facilities Services will address minor repairs and upgrades primarily inside buildings across campus over the summer to prepare for the opening of school.

As always, Facilities Services will address minor repairs and upgrades primarily inside buildings across campus over the summer to prepare for the opening of school. Summer projects include:

College of Arts and Sciences

Athletics: Relining and refinishing gym floor to meet new NCAA requirements; and, minor renovations to changing facilities to meet updated standards. The gym floor refinishing is complete, locker room work will be completed by mid August.

Manor House: Creation of a walk linking the front of the building to the rear patio were completed earlier this month. The work addressed access issues to the patio and was funded by a grant from the Juan Young Trust.

Manor House Side Patio Railing Replacement: The railing on the side (roof) patio had been undermined by rot and was scheduled to undergo minor repairs. Unfortunately, during repair it was found that the railing and the walk had been severely undermined and full replacement is necessary. As the building is historic the increased scope requires additional permitting and ordering of specialized materials. Work is scheduled to restart once permits and materials are procured. A portion of this work is funded by a grant from the Kinsman Foundation.

Pedestrian Bridges: Removal of the Howard and Templeton Bridges - replacement of the Howard Bridge. The two pedestrian bridges linking CAS residence halls and academic buildings were closed last summer due to structural issues. Only the Howard Bridge will be replaced. Design and permitting for the replacement of the Howard/Cobblestone Circle Bridge and the removal of the Templeton Bridge took place last year. With the final issuance of permits from the city early this week construction started and is scheduled to continue until late fall. Given the long duration and complexity of this project Facilities Services will be creating a project website for community members to follow this project.

Residence Halls: Repair and upgrade of two Alder Kitchens; Copeland carpet replacement in wings D, E, F and G; and, Hartzfeld removal of built-in furnishings. Work started on these project immediately following CAS Commencement and is scheduled to be completed in the middle of June.

Stewart/Odell Roof Repairs: Limited repairs to the roof to resolve ongoing leaks will start next week and be completed by mid June.

Law School

McCarty Hall Classroom Upgrades Phase II: Renovation of Classrooms 1, 3, 4 to complete McCarty renovation cycle and will address both building renewal, code, and accessibility. Work started in May and will be complete by mid August.
