Alumnus Don Grotting named superintendent of Beaverton School District

The  Beaverton  School  Board  voted  unanimously  Monday evening to appoint Grotting to oversee the 41,000-student district. He starts July 1.

Don Grotting, who the American Association of School Administrators named “Oregon Superintendent of the Year” in 2014, will be the next Beaverton School District superintendent.

The  Beaverton  School  Board  voted  unanimously  Monday evening to appoint Grotting to oversee the 41,000-student district. He starts July 1.

Grotting, 59, has served as an Oregon superintendent for the past 20 years, including the past six years as superintendent of the David Douglas School District in Portland. The Beaverton district pointed to this experience in explaining his starting pay of $291,500 a year — which the district says would make him the highest-paid superintendent in Oregon and among the highest paid in the Northwest.

Grotting replaces Jeff Rose, who left at the beginning of this month to be the Fulton County, Georgia, schools superintendent. Also, in late May, Paula Radich, Oregon Superintendent of the Year in 2010, was named the district’s interim superintendent.
