Institution-wide commencement information

What do you need to know over the next several weeks as hundreds of visitors come to campus? It’s all here.

Over the next several weeks, hundreds of visitors will come to campus to celebrate the class of 2015. In order to be helpful stewards for our graduates’ visiting friends and families, faculty and staff are encouraged to wear a gold nametag and be familiar with the campus map and this essential commencement information: 

Graduate School of Education and Counseling

When: Sunday, June 7, 9:50 a.m. (Graduates must be at Stamm in Templeton for staging at 9 a.m.)

Where: Pamplin Sports Center

Tickets: No tickets needed.

Commencement speaker: Christine E. Sleeter

Student speaker: Kimberly Crow MA ’15

Reception: A short reception will be held immediately after graduation on the Frank Manor House circle (or in Templeton Campus Center, Stamm Dining Room, in case of inclement weather).

Mobility and ASL Accommodations: Graduates requesting accommodation for themselves should contact River Montijo, Graduate Registrar, by Friday, May 29, 2015.

School of Law

When: Saturday, May 23, 11 a.m. (Graduates must be at Pamplin Sports Center for staging at 9:15 a.m.)

Where: Pamplin Sports Center

Tickets: No tickets needed.

Commencement speaker: Dean and Erskine Wood Sr. Professor of Law Jennifer Johnson

Presentation of the Leo Levenson Award: To be announced.

Reception: A short reception will be held after graduation at the law school.

Law school children’s commencement ceremony: In honor of the children of the graduating students, the Office of Alumni Relations presents a special children’s commencement ceremony held immediately following the law school commencement in McCarty Classroom 2. Family and friends are invited to attend this ceremony.  The children will be presented with a personalized certificate thanking them for their contribution to your education. Please submit the name of the child(ren) and a physical mailing address to lawalum@lclark.edu.

College of Arts and Sciences

When: Saturday, May 9, 2 p.m. (Graduates must be at Fields Dining Room in Templeton for staging at 1 p.m.)

Where: Griswold Stadium (Pamplin Sports Center, rain alternate)

Tickets: Each graduating senior will receive four complimentary tickets for Pamplin Sports Center in the event of inclement weather. 

Commencement speaker: Ron Suskind

Student speaker: Yash Desai ’15

Reception: Saturday, May 9, 4:30–6 p.m., following the ceremony on Frank Manor House grounds or, if inclement weather, in Templeton Campus Center; Frank Manor House, Armstrong Lounge; and the Hoffman Gallery of Contemporary Art. Complimentary light refreshments.

Shuttle service: A shuttle will be available Saturday, May 10, between 11 a.m.–2:15 p.m. and 4:30–6 p.m. Two small vans will circulate on the campus between Fir Acres Theatre, Lower Griswold, Upper Griswold, Law School, Huston Sports Complex, and Campus Safety parking lots.

In addition to the regularly scheduled Pioneer Express service, the College is adding two additional Commencement shuttle buses to provide service in the morning and early afternoon, with downtown pickup at SW Clay St. at Naito Parkway. (Portland Marriott Waterfront Hotel).

Live webcast

The live webcast will begin 15 minutes before the ceremony start time and conclude with the recessional. Events will be broadcast live via webcast at http://new.livestream.com/accounts/6041748/commencement

Parking

Parking is available in several on-campus lots but is prohibited in the local neighborhood. Campus safety officers and ushers will help direct traffic to open parking areas. Guests should allow extra time for traffic, walking to Griswold or Pamplin, and finding seating.

Special needs passenger check-in and drop-off

  • Before commencement, graduates should request accommodations for guests with mobility impairments. On the day of commencement, it will be necessary for a driver to drop off the guest with a mobility impairment and proceed to park the car. Please allow an additional 30 minutes.
  • Enter at the Information/Campus Safety entrance of the college, located at Entry Gate No. 3.
  • Look for the “Special Needs Passenger Check-in/Drop-off” sign. You will be directed to the drop-off area near Pamplin Sports Center and Griswold Stadium.
  • If a wheelchair has been requested, it will be available at the drop-off location. If the ceremony is in Pamplin, a family member will need to accompany the person in the wheelchair up the elevator to the main level and to the reserved special needs seating area.
  • After your driver has made the drop-off, he or she will find parking and then walk or shuttle back up to Griswold or Pamplin (buildings No. 1 and No. 3 on the campus map).
