Best known for her figurative works, Beck also taught at Vassar College and Queens College for many years. These exhibitions will introduce Pacific Northwest audiences to the artist for the first time. A symposium featuring a scholarly panel, dramatic readings, and music will be held on March 5th at Portland State University in Lincoln Hall. The lecture, presented by the Harold Schnitzer Family Program in Judaic Studies in conjunction with PSU’s College of the Arts, is titled “Rosemarie Beck’s Multiple Identities: A Woman, Jew, and Artist in Post-War New York. Lewis & Clark’s James W. Rogers Professor of Music, Aaron Beck, will deliver a paper at the symposium entitled “The Greenest Meadow of a Minuet.” Professor Beck will also speak at the Lewis & Clark College Gender Studies Symposium on March 12th in a panel discussion: “History and Public History in an Artist’s Work: A Roundtable on Rosemarie Beck.” For the full schedule, please visit the Gender Studies Symposium page.
