WellNotes: SH101January

January 2015 WellNotes

Dear L&C Students,

Welcome back (almost)!  Hopefully your time away was relaxing, restorative, and filled with good company! As you prepare to return to campus and resume life as a student, there are many things to keep in mind to ensure a safe, healthy and productive spring semester. The January issue of Student Health 101 will help you kick-start 2015 with lots of tools and fresh ideas for optimum health and success!

One thing we’d like you to be particularly mindful of as you return to L&C is the current situation with influenza (flu). Multiple sources have confirmed high flu activity in our area, and across most of the country.  Please take extra precautions to protect yourself and your community from the spread of the flu this spring by following these suggestions:

1.     If you haven’t already, get a flu shot to safeguard yourself and those around you

2.     Wash your hands frequently, especially before eating, after coughing/sneezing, after using the restroom, when coming into contact with bodily fluids, etc.

3.     If you have symptoms of the flu, stay home from school or work until symptoms go away, and get plenty of rest

4.     Drink extra liquids, especially water, to prevent dehydration

For more information on signs and symptoms of the flu, Oregon’s current influenza status, or ways to take care when you’re feeling ill, check in with us in the Health Promotion and Wellness Office. We hope that you enjoy the January issue of SH101, and have a healthy and safe 2015!

Be well,

Melissa Osmond
