AVID Volunteer Tutors needed in Beaverton Middle Schools!

AVID=advancement via individual determination

AVID is a college readiness system supports students to become college and career ready through academic skill building and instruction of college readiness strategies. AVID tutors will work with small groups of middle school students under the supervision of a teacher in an AVID classroom during the school day. AVID tutors assist the students to achieve their full potential by facilitating collaborative tutorial groups. Tutors are trained to use specific strategies to help the students come up with the answers to their questions on their own and by working with fellow students.

Being part of a program at the forefront of education is highly challenging and requires extraordinary commitment, yet its rewards are many.  More than anything else, tutoring in AVID is the best preparation possible for a career in teaching or in any other people oriented job.

Tutoring is held on a Tuesday and Thursday and times vary depending on school site and volunteer availability. Training and ongoing support is provided. A volunteer application and background check is required.  For more information contact: Danica Jensen Weiner at (503) 591-4478 ordanica_jensen@beaverton.k12.or.us
