Math Scholarship recipient announced

Ali Brauer ’15, of Portland, OR, was recently awarded the prestigious Christine Fredricks Smith Memorial Scholarship.

Ali Brauer ’15, of Portland, OR, was recently awarded the Christine Fredricks Smith Memorial Scholarship, the College’s most prestigious award exclusively for mathematics majors.  This Scholarship was established through a gift from Professor Emeritus Greg Fredricks in memory of his daughter, who graduated from the College in 1992 and was killed in an airplane crash in 2007.

This need-based Scholarship is awarded annually to a mathematics major with Junior or Senior standing and a cumulative GPA of at least 3.500. The faculty of the Department of Mathematical Sciences select the recipient based on the candidates’ academic abilities and contributions to the life of the Department.

Ali was very appreciative for this scholarship, and had this response:
“I am honored to receive this scholarship. I would not only like to thank Professor Fredricks, but my wonderful advisors and professors who have challenged me and encouraged me to grow the past few years. The math department at Lewis & Clark is a close-knit community full of fantastic people, and my selection for this scholarship reflects the huge amount of energy and enthusiasm in the department. It is a great community to be a part of, and this award just gives me more motivation to stay involved, keep spreading my love of math, and give back to the department that has given me so much.”
