New Oregon schools chief visits campus to discuss diversity

October 17, 2012

Oregon’s new statewide schools chief, Rudy Crew, recently visited Lewis & Clark for his first meeting with education leaders from the Oregon Association of Latino Administrators (OALA). The group, which represents school leaders from across the state, chose the Graduate School of Education and Counseling as the site of this meeting because of the school’s commitment to equity in education.

Crew listens as area superintendents express concerns about how well Oregon serves minority students.

The meeting brought together education leaders from around the state to listen to Crew’s plans to address equity in Oregon schools an to hear about his agenda to bridge the educational experiences of students from pre-K through college.

Choosing Lewis & Clark as the site for this visit wasn’t the first time OALA recognized the college’s commitment to equity. In 2012, professor Carolyn Carr was recognized as an ally of Latino administrators by  OALA for her work in promoting success for all students in Oregon’s schools.
