Jessica Troutman is named educator of the year in her district

Jessica Troutman, pictured here with her family, is an alumna of the Middle-Level/High School Teacher Education program (MAT ‘06). She has been selected Educator of the Year of South Columbia County for Scappoose.

Troutman teaches 8th grade language arts and is also a drama teacher at Scapoose Middle School.  She has become a teacher leader at the middle school and a certified trainer in Common Formative Assessments.  Common Formative Assessments guide instruction to make sure that state standards are met and students are experiencing successful achievement in a specific subject area.  Troutman has facilitated staff development in Common Formative Assessments, not only in the middle school staff, but also for the district’s high school staff.

According to Troutman’s principal, Pam Reynolds, Jessica is creative and her students are engaged and motivated to learn in her classes, “because of her high expectations and the pleasant classroom environment.” She goes on to say that, “Her students know she genuinely cares about them and wants each and everyone of them to be successful in school.  She is serious about her role as an educator, but always maintains a much needed sense of humor!”
