As schools administer an increasing number of tests to K-12 students, teachers strive to alleviate the pervasive test anxiety that students face.
In this recent Oregonian article, Professor and Chair of Education Vern Jones discusses some of the strategies students in Lewis & Clark teacher-education programs learn to help students avoid test anxiety.
“It’s not to find out how smart kids are; it’s to find out how well we’ve taught them,” Jones told the Oregonian.
Jones’ background includes teaching junior high school students with emotional and behavioral problems and co-chairing the American Educational Research Association’s special interest group on classroom management.
His recent publications include Practical Classroom Management, in 2011, and Comprehensive Classroom Management: Creating Positive Learning Environments and Solving Problems, in 2010, with co-author Louise Jones.
