Multimedia: Radio program prepares students for life after college

A special series of radio broadcasts is helping prepare students for life after graduation, with advice on networking, job search strategies, and more.

This spring, a special series of radio broadcasts is helping prepare students for life after graduation, with advice on networking, graduate school applications, job search strategies, and more.

Minda Heyman, director of the Center for Career and Community Engagement (3CE), and Brian Federico BA ’05 co-host the bi-weekly program on the college’s radio station, KLC. Students and alumni appear as guests, and students are encouraged to call in with questions during the live broadcasts.

This podcast (mp3) is a recording of the March 10 program, “Networking Basics for the Savvy Student.”

The series’ varied subjects reflect the diverse needs of Lewis & Clark students, with program topics like “Job Search 101: What You Need to Get Started” and “The State of the Economy and Maximizing Your Liberal Arts Degree.”

The radio program is just one of the many ways 3CE helps prepare students for their future paths. Throughout a student’s time at Lewis & Clark, 3CE encourages students to make a sustained investment in the job-search process. In addition to one-on-one meetings, resume and cover letter assistance, mock interviews, and job fairs, the center offers resources like the “3CE Road Map,” which helps students set goals and reflect on experiences throughout their years at Lewis & Clark.

True to its name, 3CE also encourages students to gain hands-on experience working in the Portland area through rigorous intern, volunteer, and research projects with community-based organizations.
