Topics will include the psychological\, social\, and polit ical characteristics of bilingualism\, and biculturalism in the United St ates and abroad. ESOL teaching is considered in light of laws\, research findings\, and second-language acquisition theory. Students will learn t he distinction between language difference and disabilities\, including a n overview of legal issues pertaining to second-language learners and spe cial and gifted education students.
