Endorsement Coursework Information
The endorsement prepares teachers to work as an ESOL specialist at the Pre-K through Grade 12 levels, or to better support English Language Learners in their classroom. This program explores the principles, theories, research, and practices relevant to the needs of students acquiring English as a second or additional language. Program components are tailored to give participants the opportunity to grapple with issues involving diversity, educational equity, and English-language learning. Learn more
Upcoming Course in Cohort Sequence
READ 634 / ESOL 607 Language Acquisition and Development
(January 2020): This course serves as an exploration of reading assessment strategies. Topics include a language orientation for diagnosing reading problems, diverse causes and correlates of reading difficulties, assessment procedures in reading, and strategies to facilitate readers’ improvement. Each participant assesses a reader, develops a profile of personal strategies, and designs and implements an instructional plan to help the reader develop effective, efficient reading strategies responsive to individual differences, interests, and developmental levels. Participants consider reading issues for students at all levels.

Schedule: Thursdays, January 9-April 23, 2020, 4:30-7:30 p.m. (No in-person meetings on March 19 for conferences and March 26 for spring break; there will be one online make-up session for the week of March 19).
