READ 614- Reading Comprehension: Theory and Practical Application
(Spring 2020): This course offers an in-depth exploration of current models and trends in reading comprehension and its cognitive and linguistic components. Students will read widely from professional journals, explore and reflect on their personal reading processes, and complete theoretical and practical projects to further their understanding. This course examines factors that contribute to reading difficulty (from early childhood through adulthood), as well as important issues and questions about standardized tests, observational diagnostics, readability formulas, and the effectiveness and theoretical validity of published programs.

Schedule: Mondays, January 13, 27, February 10, 24, March 9, 30, April 13-20, 2020, 4:30-7:30 p.m. and online. Online sessions during the weeks of January 20, February 3, 17, March 2, 16, and April 6. No class on March 23 (spring break).
Location: Linwood Elementary School

Degree-applicable credit: READ 614, 3 semester hours, $1,905.
