Exploring Web 2.0: Tools for Classroom Teaching and Professional Development
This is an online course.
Learn by doing! As Vincent Van Gogh said, “I am always doing what I cannot do yet in order to learn how to do it.” Using free Web 2.0 tools, collaborate online with an international group of teachers in order to learn how to exploit social multimedia Web resources for classroom teaching and professional development. This class is designed for all educators who want to move beyond using the Internet solely for information dissemination. Learn to use the Web in educational settings as students are already doing in their wider world, including blogs, wikis, podcasts, audio and videoconferencing, social bookmarking, image enhancement and news aggregators. Text-based articles, audio and video resources will guide teachers in pedagogical best practices as Web 2.0 resources are explored. The broader content overlay for the course will be human rights, a topic that will facilitate intercultural exchange among international participants and lead to creation of student projects with a real-world impact.
Teachers must have a reliable internet connect and access email on a regular basis. Teachers should also have basic internet browsing and search skills. This course is all online; approximately 2 hours per day online.
