Volunteering Opportunities:

The conference committee in Portland is requesting volunteers for advanced and on-site help for the conference. Volunteering is a great way to be a part of this event, connect with others at the conference, and support AWP both locally and nationally.

Volunteer Opportunities

There are many exciting volunteer opportunities available in the following areas: On-site Registration, Workshops/ CEUs, Souvenirs/ Silent Auction, Session Monitoring, Films, Set up/Clean up, Wellness Activities, Hospitality, Special Events, Book Sales/Author signings

Volunteer Benefits

AWP National and member donations provide the following opportunities for students and limited means members to attend the conference at a reduced cost. Please note that you must be a member of AWP to take advantage of these savings and can purchase a membership at the conference or when registering. Volunteer benefits fall under 2 general categories:

OPTION 1. Volunteer for Reduced or Free Registration. Individuals volunteering for 4 or more hours will receive a reduced registration cost and a free ticket to our Saturday evening dance. Reductions are based on the following criteria:

  • Local/out of town students who do not require lodging will receive free registration in exchange for volunteering. When registering for the conference, you will need to choose “student member” and identify that you are a volunteer to receive this benefit.
  • Local/out of town individuals (non-students) who do not require lodging will receive reduced registration (i.e., Limited Means Registration) in exchange for volunteering. When registering for the conference, you will need to choose “student member” and identify that you are a volunteer to receive this benefit.

OPTION 2. Volunteer for a Scholarship Room at the Conference. Individuals who are coming to the conference from out of town and who volunteer for 4 or more hours will have their stay mostly subsidized by AWP National. There are two rooming options for volunteers to choose from:

  • $20 per person for 4 volunteers per room with 2 queen beds
  • $50 per person for 2 volunteers per room with 2 queen beds

Please Note: Volunteer rate rooms are arranged by the conference committee so reduced rates are not available for rooms booked directly with the hotel. You will be asked to pay the Greater Portland Association for Women in Psychology (GPAAWP) directly for your share of the costs. If you do not have a roommate, please contact volunteerawp2010@mindspring.com, with your name, dates of stay, and shared/nonshared preference.

If you have access to financial assistance from your home institution, please do not request duplicate support from AWP. This will allow us to help as many individuals as possible to attend the conference.

Volunteer Submission Form

Interested individuals should complete the online volunteer interest form, or by printing the form and faxing it to Dawn Salgado, Department of Psychology, Lewis and Clark College at (503) 768-7658. For questions or more information, please email Dawn Salgado at volunteerawp2010@mindspring.com.
