LA 634 Language Acquisition and Development
This course discusses theories of how first and second languages (written and spoken) are acquired, the importance of first-language development and its relationship to the acquisition of other languages, and the relationship of language to cognitive development.
Understanding of these issues is used to promote a school environment that honors diverse perspectives, maximizes language learning potential, and ensures respect for communities whose languages or varieties of English differfrom standard school English.
Course Details
Dates: Mondays, January 7, 14, 28, February 4, 11, 25, March 4, 18, April 1, 8, 15, 22, May 6, 13.
No class: January 21, Feb 18, March 11 or March 25.
Time: 4:15-7:15 p.m.
Prerequisites: None
Credits: 3 semester hours
