Bully Prevention in Positive Behavior Support
Date: January 17 2013 5:00pm - 8:00pm Location: South Chapel - Lewis & Clark Graduate Campus
Various studies suggest that 30% to 50% of school age students are involved in bullying and/or harassment incidents. Previous research indicates that bully prevention programs should focus on changing social culture, and that prevention oriented programs that target the behavior of bystanders have shown the most promise.
Expect Respect is a program designed to prevent bullying and harassment. It is recommended for use with students in grades 3-8. Expect Respect was researched in 3 middle schools in Eugene, Oregon, during the 2011-2012 School Year. Results of the study show reductions in rates of social aggression, as measured by direct observation, of about 50%.
In this workshop Dr. Stiller will review critical features of this program, and will discuss variables related to effective intervention.
