The Many Faces and Facets of Immigration
October 5, 2006
The first event in this series will feature Alejandra Favela, Assistant Professor of Teacher Education who will speak of the complex experiences of immigrants to the U.S. Dr. Favela's presentation will serve also as the inaugural event of the Oregon Center's year-long focus on Immigration.
Dr. Favela, herself an immigrant, has navigated the complexities of entry into U.S. culture. In recent years, she has worked as a bilingual teacher in various urban and rural settings, and has a long history of working for social justice and education for marginalized children. The conversation she facilitates will cover aspects of immigration that tend to be missing from information provided to the public by the media and government officials.

Additional events in the Immigration Series will be conducted through the Open Spaces program.
