Writing Assistance

Resources

Quick-Help Line (aka "The Grammar Witch")

If you have a question about the conventions (grammar, usage, punctuation, or mechanics) of standard written English, send email to wstudio@lclark.edu. We will reply, in most instances, within 24 hours. Questions can be answered most efficiently if you provide the context, usually the sentence, in which the item appears.

Reference Library

We have a collection of reference books including handbooks, dictionaries, and thesauruses as well as literary periodicals and books about the writing process.

Writing Groups

If you would like to organize an independent writing response group that helps writers develop their work, we can work with you to structure your group and provide guidelines for supportive peer response.

Consulting for Faculty and Staff

Marcia Silver can help faculty use "writing to learn" strategies in their teaching, design or redesign writing assignments, respond effectively to student writing, and set up writing response groups. She is also available to faculty and staff for assistance with grant writing, newsletters, and other professional publications.

Workshops

The Writing Studio can accommodate a limited number of requests for writing workshops that address specific needs in schools and community institutions and agencies.
