While not legally mandated to pay, most insurance payors do pay for counseling by Licensed Professional Counselors. Exceptions usually occur in areas where there is a heavy concentration of mental health professionals, and the Licensed Professional Counselor has no specialty which the insurance company recognizes as needed.
