Video: Student splits time between comics and classroom
This summer is full of milestones for Aron Nels Steinke ‘10. Steinke began the graduate school’s elementary education program in June, on his way to a career in the classroom. This week, he marks another major achievement with the release of his first graphic novel, Neptune.
An award-winning cartoonist, Steinke spent two years working on Neptune. This week, he debuts the book at both the San Diego Comic Con (July 23-26) and the Portland Zine Symposium (July 24-26). Steinke will also hold a reading at Powell’s City of Books on August 31.
Steinke is looking forward to merging his interests as a teacher, nurturing students’ creativity and helping them find their own voices.
“I’m really interested in teaching storytelling,” Steinke said. “I want kids to tell their own personal stories to connect whatever we’re doing in the classroom to their daily lives and to teach them to value their opinions.”
