Todd Jones, MAT ’96, was named the regional teacher of the year honors from the Oregon Department of Education. This was the first year that Oregon named regional honors and all 13 of the regional winners are eligible for Oregon’s teacher of the year award in September. Each recipient was judged by a diverse panel of judges, who assessed their leadership, instructional expertise, community involvement, understanding of educational issues, professional development and vision.

Jones is a longtime history and government teacher at West Linn High School. He has advised West Linn High’s Model United Nations team for a decade and the school’s Lobby Club since 2012. Jones twice took sabbaticals from teaching, once to serve as the communications director for Oregon State Treasurer Randall Edwards for two years and once to serve a year as a policy director for former Gov. John Kitzhaber’s overarching education oversight board. Currently, Jones serves on the Chalkboard Project Advisory Council, the Distinguished Educators Council, WorldOregon’s Education Advisory Council and as an Oregon Business Council Oregon Learns Fellow.
