Job Opportunity: Part Time English Teacher

L’Etoile French Immersion School is hiring a part-time English Teacher for kindergarten and for elementary grades 1– 2. L’Etoile is a private school in John’s Landing that offers preschool through 5th grade in a personalized, multi-cultural setting. Coursework is predominantly taught in French, but blocks of time are also dedicated to the development of English reading and writing skills.  Class sizes are limited to 20 students, but generally range from 15-18.

 

 

 

Position: Part-­‐time English Teacher (Kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade) 

Reports to: Head of School 

Status:  Salary, Part-­‐time 

Compensation: $24,465 

Effective Date: 2015-­‐2016 Academic Year

L’Etoile is looking for candidates who are committed to building an enriching environment that challenges every student to reach his or her potential.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education 

• At least 4 years of professional teaching experience in a public or private elementary school

• Experience developing curriculum based on Common Core standards    

• Experience differentiating curriculum according to a student’s level (e.g. English language learners, advanced learners, special needs) 

• Experience with administering standardized tests

 

Preferred Qualification: 

• Master’s degree in Education and/or a reading endorsement 

 

Responsibilities:  

•Teacher will teach English language arts to kindergarten for 3 hours/week, 1st grade for 5 hours/week, and to 2nd grade for 5 hours/week.    Teacher will develop the curriculum based on Common Core standards.

•Teacher will collaborate with the French homeroom teacher to ensure consistency in subject material and to share progress on each student.

•Teacher will assess and document student progress for each of the three reporting periods during the school year.  

•Teacher will consistently communicate with parents on the material that is covered in class.

•Teacher will develop a personalized plan for students requiring extra help, and will update the parents at regular intervals on academic progress.

•Teacher will participate in parent teacher conferences, monthly staff meetings, and special parent events such as Back to School Night or First Grade Information Night.

•Teacher will prepare students for Oregon standardized tests and administer the tests for the required grades.
