Job Opportunity: Director of Dallas Community School

Dallas Community School is looking for a new director.

The Director will be an experienced administrator who is able to draw upon experience, acumen, and best practices to develop a program that is sustainable and meets the needs of our unique learning community. We are looking for an individual who is ready to roll up her/his sleeves, jump in, and work quickly and efficiently to accomplish necessary tasks. The Director should be willing to lead the way, work as part of a team, and revise tactics as needed. As a detail-oriented, organized professional, you will thrive on a high level of autonomy that will require you to wear multiple hats within a small organization.

 

The Director will demonstrate the following qualifications and skills:

 

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a field that is related to the leadership of a public charter school.

  • Valid Oregon teaching license preferred.

  • At least three years of successful teaching in public, private, or nonformal learning environments.

  • Three years of education administration experience, preferably within a charter school system. Administrative experience with concentration in administration, supervision, curriculum, finance, budgeting, and personnel management.

  • Knowledge of Board policies and procedures, Oregon statutes, policies and procedures of the Oregon department of education, Dallas School District 2, and regulations pertaining to Oregon charter school development and oversight.

  • Leadership, communications, and relationship development skills including awareness of community support, community expectations for the school, curriculum and instructional theory and practices, management principles and financial planning, management information systems and leadership techniques is essential. The position requires, among other qualities, managerial, observational, communications, and leadership skills and abilities.

  • Language skills including ability to read, write and interpret documents such as curriculum guides, budgets, test results, contracts, grant applications, statutes and policies. Ability to understand and generate written memorandums, employee evaluations, and correspondence with business and public contacts. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to individuals and groups. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from parents, staff, students and the general public.

  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts, as well as experience in working with and preparing budgets. Ability to read and interpret fiscal reports.

  • Must be knowledgeable of current school software, and a variety of electronic tools. Must be capable of correspondence using e-mail or other web-based applications.

  • Reasoning ability including analyze problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Fund development skills including grantwriting, annual campaigns, and donor cultivation.

  • Problem-solving skills including ability to develop innovative solutions to problems, think outside of the administrative box, work within established rules to develop services that meet individual needs, and ability to engage a team in the problem solving process.

  • Clear understanding and support of nontraditional learning environments including homeschooling and community based education, as well as genuine support for parent participation in educational environments.
