Lewis & Clark and Grant High School Combine Forces
Professor of Biology Greg Hermann and Grant High School Biology Teacher Amy Lindahl (L&C MAT ’04) have received a $2,000 grant from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) HOPES Seed program. With funding from the National Science Foundation, this program supports the development of K-12 STEM outreach projects; the goal is “to incentivize and support the development of outreach programs and partnerships by teachers and researchers.” This grant will support the project, Student inquiry with RNAi-mediated gene silencing in a highschool setting by helping with the purchase of materials and supplies for an investigative lab in three Advanced Biology Classes at Grant High School. Dr. Hermann will provide training and support with lab preparation and curriculum design, and will take Lewis & Clark students working in his lab to visit Ms. Lindhahl’s class where undergraduates will discuss their studies and help with C. elegans techniques.
