Lewis & Clark has published a new issue of Democracy & Education, an open-access online journal aimed at preparing students in pre-K to grade 12 for participation in democratic society. The new issue features David H. Lempert’s “Taking People’s History Back to the People: An Approach to Making History Popular, Relevant, and Intellectual,” and Cory A. Buxton, Shakhnoza Kayumova, and Martha Allexsaht-Snider’s “Teacher, Researcher, and Accountability Discourses: Creating Space for Democratic Science Teaching Practices in Middle Schools,” among other features.

The new issue also features an article by Lewis & Clark professor Kimberly Campbell about the need for more teacher-led research, arguing, “As teacher-educators we need to embrace practitioner (action) research of our own classroom practice.” The article is part of a dialogue with another author, Muriel Simms, on the topic.

Committed to the idea that scholarship should be accessible to the widest possible audience, the journal offers all of its content for free. Its 75 feature articles, responses, and book reviews have been downloaded more than 49,000 times, at an average download rate of 663 downloads per article. Readers can find the all of the editions on the journal’s website or search for articles on Google Scholar, ERIC and EBSCO databases, and many other sources.
