October 02, 2012

Many high school students struggle to find success during the regular school year. For them, the Portland Public Schools Summer Scholar’s program provides a second chance, an opportunity to overcome personal and academic obstacles and transform failure into success.

Ginger Taylor M.Ed. ‘04, earned her degree in school counseling at Lewis & Clark and now leads the Summer Scholars program. In 2012, the program served over 1200 students in the Portland Metro region.

The program helps students recover lost credit, improve a grade, or get ahead by earning new credits toward graduation.

In this video, Taylor and students in the program discuss it’s impact.
