(OWP) Annual Renewal Day for K-12 Teachers

The 2012 Renewal Day is FULL. Thank you for your interest - we hope to see you next year!

In the middle of February, when the skies are gray, the days are short, and the rain is hard, we want you to retreat, to remember the joy of writing. We invite you to take a day for yourself. Forget the spa. Forget the wine. The real gift is time from your hectic life to write. Sure, you will be able to take what you learn back to your classroom, but this is a day to be a writer.

Our guest for this year’s retreat is Heidi Durrow, author of The Girl Who Fell from the Sky. Heidi, who won the Bellwether Prize for Literature of Social Change bestowed by Barbara Kingsolver, will lead us in a fiction-writing workshop. A few of Heidi Durrow’s recent awards and honors include:

• Award, Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference Scholar, 2009
• Winner, Bellwether Prize for Literature of Social Change, 2008
• Pushcart Prize Nomination, The Literary Review for “He Runs,” 2007
• Winner, Roth Endowment Award, 2007
• Emerging Artist Grant, Fractured Atlas, 2006
• Finalist, Reynolds Price Fiction Contest, 2006
• Djerassi Artist Program Residency, 2005
• Fellowship in Fiction, New York Foundation for the Arts, 2004
