(NWI) Audio Postcards: Creativity, Compassion, Commitment

  • News Image

Drawing on life experience, participants in this workshop will write profiles of personal heroes, encounters with other cultures, moments of creative discovery, and other compact experiences with indelible effects. From these short writings, we will select, deepen, and record our selected accounts for podcast, and other forms of web-based sharing.

We’ll spend time Saturday writing a number of short pieces, for revision that evening, and recording on Sunday. Our work will be informed by frequent opportunities to listen to audio stories on-line, and in the work of previous participants in this course. At the close of the workshop, we’ll discuss how recorded stories can become part of the work of a teacher, a counselor, an advocate for a cultural community, or any other citizen with a story to tell.

About the Instructor

Kim Stafford founded the Northwest Writing Institute at Lewis & Clark College, and has published a dozen books of poetry and prose, most recently The Muses Among Us. He approaches writing as a chance to set down stories we have carried into poems, essays, radio commentaries, blessings, rants, parables, and other forms of  “tikkun olam,” the healing of the world. “In our time is a great thing not yet done. It is the marriage of Woody Guthrie’s gusto and the Internet. It the composing and wide sharing of generous expression in the voices of many for the needs of all.”
