From his entertaining delivery of information to his contagious passion for nature, alumnus and teacher Andrew Wex has inspired his students to love learning. Wex MAT ’05 earned a Reader’s Choice Award for Best Teacher in a contest sponsored by his local newspaper, The Sandy Post.

Wex has taught science at Sandy High School for six years and accidentally came to teaching after working as a security guard at a school and discovering he had a knack with youth.

Sandy High senior Sam Loos told The Sandy Post that Wex has earned the support and admiration of his students not only for being fun, but also for being “dedicated” to his work.

“Wex is more than willing to go beyond the curriculum just to teach us all about something he loves,” Loos said. “He’s really more of a friend, more of a mentor, more than just a teacher.”
