Drama and Movement in Education
Date: 1:00pm - 4:00pm PDT June 29, 2013 Location: South Chapel
This introductory, experiential workshop gives concrete examples of how to use drama and movement in the classroom for community building, problem-solving, and standards-based instruction.
The focus will be on process drama rather than performance skills for the sake of inclusion and multi-modal understanding.
Discussions will center around cultural and linguistic awareness and how movement and drama can be used to enhance group cohesion, as vehicles for instruction, and as additional forms of assessment.
Participants will learn a series of movement and classroom drama activities designed for in-service K-12 teachers and be given time to debrief and collaborate with colleagues, and go away with tools for integrating these activities with current best practices and content objectives.
No prior movement or drama experience necessary.

About the Instructor
Jennifer Fenniman is an arts educator and bilingual teacher of fourth and fifth graders at El Puente Bilingual School and an adjunct instructor at the Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling. She specializes in community building, curricular instruction and language acquisition through movement and creative dramatics.
After focusing on theater arts and dance, education and Latin American studies at Sarah Lawrence College, she spent six years traveling and working as a designer, director, teacher, and performer throughout Columbia, Brazil, Bolivia, and Chile. Since moving to Oregon her work has focused on encouraging young people to cultivate literacy, communication, teamwork, empathy, and creativity through the dramatic arts in both English and Spanish.
Jennifer has designed and facilitated theater skills and curriculum tie-in workshops, and directed and choreographed musical productions for Portland, Beaverton and Parkrose school districts. She holds an M.A.T. from Lewis & Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling.
